The number of Filipinos injured after the powerful earthquake that struck Taiwan last week rose to 9, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed on Sunday, April 7.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post, DMW officer-in-charge Hans Leo Cacdac said five more Filipinos sustained slight injuries, and they received aid from the Manila Economic and Cultural Office and DMW-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration during a visit to Hualien, the quake's epicenter.

"With today’s visit to Hualien County by MECO Chair Silvestre Bello III and Team DMW-OWWA, food and water packs are being distributed. Also, 5 slightly injured OFWs are being assisted, bringing the total of OFWs injured during the earthquake to nine (9)," Cacdac said.

A magnitude 7.5 earthquake jolted Taiwan’s Hualien City on Wednesday morning, April 3, the strongest quake in 25 years.

DMW initially reported that three Filipinos suffered minor injuries after the magnitude 7.5 earthquake. The first Filipino had a minor head injury due to a collapsed ceiling, the second sustained a swollen hand, and the third one fainted during the strong quake.

The fourth Filipino reportedly sufferred "head injuries due to falling debris."

The powerful quake prompted the country's state seismologist to issue a tsunami warning in Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Isabela, but later lifted it due to non-detection of disturbances.
