by Mary Antalan26 October 2023

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported on Thursday that overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in Israel who are relatives of more than seven hundred families in the Philippines have already been contacted.

In a briefing with the House Overseas Workers Affairs Committee, Migrant Workers Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said that up to 746 OFW families have sought help from the office through their helpline.

He said 744 of them have been accounted for, while two more OFWs are being searched with the help of the Israeli Defense Forces.

Currently, the number of Filipinos killed in the conflict between Israel and Hamas remains at four.

The DMW's repatriation efforts are also continuing, where every returning Filipino will be given 50,000 pesos in cash assistance due to sudden job loss.

Cacdac thanked the support of partner agencies such as the Department of Health (DOH), TESDA, and DSWD.

Upon arrival in the country of Filipinos coming from Israel, DMW said they will immediately undergo medical check-ups and psychosocial counseling.

TESDA distributes training vouchers to interested OFWs who want to participate in skills training.
