After almost 17 hours of retrieval operations, six individuals were confirmed dead while two others were injured after a wall of a house in Tagaytay City collapsed on Monday, July 11.
This was confirmed by City Administrator Greg Monreal on Tuesday.
An initial police report identified the victims as construction workers Ronilo Casaljay, Daniel Nesperos, William Ocong, Ramer Gamba, Jeremy Doña, Nino Velasquez, Anthony Velasquez, and project engineer Marco Paulo Abarientos — all employees of the 3-13 Construction which was currently building a house at the site.
They were said to be resting at around 6:00 PM in their barracks when the concrete fence of the adjacent property in Barangay Kaybagal Central collapsed and fell on them.
The police noted that the fence collapsed "due to heavy rainfall."
In an interview earlier with DZRH, LtCol. Norman Ranon, chief of the Tagaytay City police, confirmed that authorities have recovered the bodies of Casaljay, Velasquez, and Abarientos.
They were all taken to the Ospital ng Tagaytay, but Casaljay was confirmed dead on arrival.
Authorities are currently investigating who will be liable for the incident and suspended the operation of the construction in the area.
