Over 40 metric tons of garbage were collected in the vicinity of Quiapo Church along Quezon Boulevard during the observance of Lenten week, as reported by the city government of Manila on Monday, April 10.
According to the Manila Public Information Office, a total of 16 trucks collected 44 metric tons of waste that were left behind by the devotees when they visited the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene procession for the observance from April 6 until April 9.
Eight truckloads of trash were collected on Good Friday, the most throughout Holy Week, according to data from the city's Department of Public Services.
On the other side, it also stated that only two truckloads of trash were collected on Black Saturday and Easter Sunday.
The Quiapo Church Command Post said that the basilica received 179,508 visitors on April 6, 7, and 9.
The largest crowd, 83,355, was counted on April 6 and 7, with 57,005 individuals visiting the church and 26,350 people participating in the parade.
On Good Friday, 53,630 people came to the city, of whom 15,630 visited Quiapo Church and 38,000 watched the procession.
42,523 people in all attended the basilica on Easter Sunday.
