A total of 409 Filipinos have safely arrived in Egypt from Khartoum, the capital of the war-torn Sudan, while the 72-hour cease fire is in effect, the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) said on Thursday, April 27.
In a press release, PCO said of these number, 335 are overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their family members on Wednesday.
It said that Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susan 'Toots' Ople and DMW Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac are presently in Cairo, Egypt, assisting the national government’s evacuation efforts and distribution of relief assistance.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has raised the Alert level in Sudan to level 3 as the ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Army and paramilitary forces.
Alert Level 3 meant voluntary repatriation or evacuation.
Since the clash broke out on April 15, about 512 individual were killed and 4,200 were wounded, according to the latest Reuters report.
