Two ships were reportedly run aground at Batangas International Port due to the strong waves and winds brought by the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

In a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, the vessels were identified as the MTKR Cassandra and another cargo vessel, as confirmed by Batangas Port Manager Joselito Sinocruz.

Sinocruz stated that the cargo vessel, an oil tanker, was left anchored by its captain. The crew has reportedly abandoned the ship and is now in a safe location.

The oil tanker has been anchored at the port for some time, having been previously apprehended by the Bureau of Customs for allegedly smuggling oil.

Sinocruz could not confirm whether the tanker is still loaded with oil, but there are concerns about a possible oil spill due to the tanker continuously striking the pier.

Upon entering Batangas Port, a noticeable smell of oil was already detected.
