Two Filipinos were injured after a fire broke out in a 16-story residential building in Hong Kong's bustling Kowloon district on Wednesday, April 10, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
In a press release issued on Thursday, the DMW confirmed another Filipina fire victim, a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HK-SAR).
"She was treated for smoke inhalation. She is receiving treatment at a local hospital. Due to her age, doctors decided to observe her condition further," the DMW said.
This report brings to two the number of Filipinos injured in the fire after the first reported male victim sustained injuries from splinters from a broken glass door he had to break through to avoid smoke inhalation.
The latter remained in the hospital and is still being treated.
"He just recently acquired permanent residency status in Hong Kong but remains an active member of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)," the DMW noted.
Meanwhile, the MWO-HK and the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong (PCG-HK) have already met the two Filipinos and are working to assist them.
According to a Reuters report, five people were killed and 35 were injured.
Around 150 people were evacuated to safety, while 40 people were sent to public hospitals.
