Following the recognition from the local police, the two nursing students from the University of Cebu who performed first-aid to a wounded woman will be given the "Mayor's Award" during Cebu City's Charter celebration on February 24, according to Mayor Michael Rama.
Rama said that the "courage" shown by Angyl Faith Ababat and Kristianne Joyce Noelle Ona deserves recognition for they still came to rescue the woman despite the risk of also getting injured.
The mayor mentioned that the two students showed an act of humanity to save a life which most people would cower and fear for safety.
Meanwhile, the fruit vendor identified as Bernardita Zamora is now in a hospital for further treatment, while her live-in partner Edwin Lumacad is now detained and will be facing criminal charges for injuring his common-law wife.
Both Ababat and Ona will receive special recognition to inspire young people to help others in any situation.
Rama also stated that the nursing students will be welcomed by the city government if ever they decide to join the corps of nurses at Cebu City Medical Center after graduating and getting their licenses.
