The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has officially opened another round of voter registration from August 1 to August 10, in preparation for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled for December 1, 2025.
In an interview on Magandang Umaga Pilipinas on Friday, COMELEC Chairman Atty. George Garcia explained that the time between the 2025 midterm elections and the BSKE 2025 is tight, prompting the commission to open an additional 10-day registration period.
“Napakaiksi nong panahon na ibinigay sa comelec para mag conduct ng elections. Halos 6 na buwan lamang ang pinaghahandaan natin,” he said.
“Medyo na-late pa dahil naghihintay tayo ng development kung ipagpapaliban ang ating halalan.” he added
COMELEC aims to register youth aged 15 to 17 years old so they can participate in the SK elections. According to Atty. Garcia, this may be their only chance to register these voters should BSKE 2025 push through this year.
Special Register Anywhere Program (SRAP)
COMELEC also announced the launch of a new initiative, the Special Register Anywhere Program (SRAP), which will run from August 1 to 7.
The program is intended to assist voters residing near SRAP venues, allowing them to file specific types of applications. However, transfers of local registration records will not be accommodated. The following transactions will be accepted:
- Registration
- Change of Name and Status
- Correction of Entries
- Reactivation of Registration Records
- Transfer from Overseas to Local Only
“Dito po sa NCR, mayroon po tayong registration anywhere na program at registration anytime, pang gabi mayroon din po tayong gagawin,” Chairman Garcia shared during the interview.
For now, COMELEC is still awaiting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s approval of the bill that seeks to extend the terms of Barangay and SK officials.
