Out of the total 26.4 million Filipino households surveyed by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), 5,322,024 households, accounting for 20.2% of the total, stated that they owned at least one additional piece of land.
According to the recently conducted 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), among these households, 3.54 million (13.4%) owned agricultural land, while 2.87 million (10.9%) possessed other residential land.
However, the National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the lowest proportion of households with additional land ownership, with only 8.2% or 287,297 households reporting ownership of land apart from their primary residence.
Analyzing the data by administrative regions, Region IV-A - CALABARZON had the highest number of households owning residential lands, totaling 328,708 households or 11.5% of the nationwide count.
Following closely behind were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 263,533 households (9.2%) and Region VII - Central Visayas with 263,374 households (9.2%).
Regarding agricultural land ownership, Region XII had the highest number of households, with 286,684 households (8.11%) owning such land.
Region II followed with 274,241 households (7.8%), while Regions VI and VII had 272,042 households (7.7%) and 270,368 households (7.6%), respectively.
During the 2020 CPH, information regarding land ownership was gathered through specific inquiries made to the respondents.
They were asked if any member of their household possessed the following types of land:
- Additional residential land/s apart from their primary residence.
- Agricultural land/s.
- Agricultural land/s obtained through the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) as agrarian reform beneficiaries.
- Other types of land/s.
