The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Tuesday, Dec. 19, released an advisory after the Vatican allowed blessing same-sex couples.

“The document speaks for itself, and therefore does not require much explanation,” its advisory read, referring to the Declaration “Fiducia supplicans” which consent “irregular” couples for a blessing.

"…it offers a specific and innovative contribution to the pastoral meaning of blessings, permitting a broadening and enrichment of the classical understanding of blessings," it added, citing the dicastery's prefect Victor Manuel Cardinal Fernandez.

CBCP also reiterated that there would be no fixed rite by ecclesial authorities to avoid confusion.

“[T]he form of which should not be fixed ritually by ecclesial authorities to avoid producing confusion with the blessing proper to the Sacrament of Marriage,” the CBCP furthered.

The Holy Father earlier gave a go signal for priests to bless same-sex couples but with a reservation that it would not offer the impression of a marriage, such as using clothes or words which likened to weddings.
