The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) celebrated the performance of the Filipinas in the 2023 FIFA World Cup.
PFF president Mariano Araneta Jr. congratulated the Philippine Women's National Football team (PWNFT) on Monday, July 31, for managing to unite the country.
"(PWNFT) have achieved something greater, and that was to see the entire Filipino community in the Philippines and wherever they are around the world show their overwhelming support to the team." Araneta said in a statement.
"We recognize the hard work and sacrifices this team have made to make our World Cup dream a reality," he added.
Atty. Edwin Gastanes, secretary general of PFF, said that the national team became a beacon of hope, and source of joy for every Filipino.
"We have also seen the outpouring of support from Filipinos all over the world as showed in the numerous watch parties in the Philippines and all over the globe," Gastanes mentioned.
The PFF official remarked that the 'heart and fighting spirit shown by the Filipinas will long be remembered in Philippine football history'.
The 2023 FIFA World Cup campaign of the Philippines kicked off with a 2-0 loss at the hands Switzerland.
The Filipinas remained in contention for a spot in the next round of the tournament after goal by Sarina Bolden pushed them to victory against New Zealand, 1-0.
The FIFA Women's World Cup debut of the Philippines came to an end following a 6-0 loss against Norway.
