'Sobrang sakit': Mother of Laguna hazing victim appeals for justice
by John Dexter Tilo23 March 2022

The emotional mother of the grade 12 student who allegedly died in Laguna due to hazing cried out for justice on the death of her son.

Maricar Rabutazo, the mother of Reymarc Rabutazo, told DZRH that their family needs justice after what happened.

"Sobrang sakit. Hustisya ang kailangan namin," she said in an interview.

(It’s so painful. We need justice.)

According to Rabutazo, a lot of people have already gone to them to extend help to the family.

"Anak, ang dami nang nagpupunta rito. Tutulungan tayo. Bibigyang katarungan 'yung ginawa sayo," she said.

(My son, many have already come here. They will help us. They will give justice after what they’ve done to you.)

Reymarc passed away from injuries he reportedly sustained from initiation rites by the Tau Gama Fraternity, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The said injuries include bruises on the victim's thighs and some cigarette burns on his chest.

He was rushed to the Gen. Cailles Hospital in Laguna but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, reported the PNP.

"Ang tindi ng ginawa nila sa kanya," said Maricar.

(What they did to him is so extreme.)

"Okay sana kung sinaksak lang 'yung anak ko, napakasakit. Sobrang sakit," she added. "Habang ginaganyan 'yung anak ko nagtatawanan pa sila, nagpapalakpakan pa."

(It is much better if they just stabbed him. It’s so painful. While they were doing that to my son they were still laughing and clapping.)

According to the PNP, Tau Gamma fraternity member Venzon Lacaocao has surrendered while Reyvince Espaldon has been arrested by the police on Monday.

The two suspects are now under PNP custody and are charged with homicide and violation of the Anti-Hazing Act.

PNP chief Dionardo Carlos said the organization is already on the case and is calling on other possible victims to cooperate and explain the circumstances that led to Reymarc's death.

"Police investigators will study the autopsy report so as to identify the extent of injuries and the objects used against the victim. I am also instructing our probers to identify the suspects at the soonest possible time," said the PNP chief.
