National Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez called Chinese Coast Guard's (CCG) use of direct laser toward Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ship in Ayungin Shoal as "offensive" and "unsafe."
This was disclosed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar in an interview with the media on Monday.
"The Secretary of National Defense has already declared the act committed by the Coast Guard of China is offensive and already unsafe," he told reporters.
The AFP spokesperson said that it is time for the Chinese government to "retrain its forces."
"So that it does not commit any provocative act that will endangers the lives of people," he added.
In a statement on Monday, PCG accused the CCG vessel of directing a "military-grade lase light" toward a PCG vessel supporting a rotation and resupply mission in Ayungin Shoal last February 6.
It said that the laser caused temporary blindness to the PCG crew at the bridge.
