The production team of ABS-CBN's "FPJ's Batang Quiapo" on Thursday formally apologized to the Muslim community who got hurt in one controversial scene of its episode aired last February 14.

The apology comes after Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Ziaur-Rahman 'Zia' Alonto Adiong condemned the scene where Tanggol, portrayed by TV actor and director Coco Martin, sought help from his Muslim friend as police authorities chased him for stealing an expensive jewelry.

Adiong noted that "Islam does not coddle theft and considers it a major sin."

"These are discriminatory, harmful, and derogatory portrayals of an entire community. As a district representative of Lanao del Sur and a Bangsamoro Muslim, I am deeply saddened by this discriminating portrayal," he said.

In a statement, the TV series' production team assured that they would be sensitive in depicting the life of Tanggol and his community.

Meanwhile, in a video message, devout Muslim Senator Robinhood 'Robin' Padilla said he accepted the apologies of Coco Martin, who personally visited his office.

According to Padilla, Coco admitted that he has limited knowledge about Islam.
