The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday, April 10, released a memorandum mandating local government units in Metro Manila to adjust working hours, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Under MMDA Resolution No. 24-08 dated February 28, MMDA said the “persistent traffic congestion” in the capital region spurred them to implement innovative solutions to improve the commuting public’s transport woes.

The agency said the usual 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. working hours in government offices have contributed to traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

The MMDA emphasized the “potential effectiveness of implementing a standardized working schedule for government offices in Metro Manila, particularly during peak hours, in reducing traffic congestion.”

The agency also encouraged the national government agencies in Metro Manila to apply the same modified working hour schedule.

“This adjustment aims to distribute the ingress and egress of employees, thereby mitigating traffic congestion during peak hours,” the MMDA said.

The adjusted working hours is set to take effect on April 15.
