The Department of Health (DOH) has reminded the public to do harmless pranks today, the celebration of April Fool's Day.
In a statement sent to the media, DOH mentioned while it acknowledges the essence of April Fools Day, it reminded the public that death, illness, disease, and other physical or mental conditions should not be the topics of jokes.
"The Department of Health acknowledges that in many cultures, the first day of April is often called April Fool's Day - a day when there is an outbreak of pranks or jokes," it said.
"First, do no harm. The DOH urges all would-be pranksters to please avoid jokes related to illness, disease, and other physical or mental conditions; most especially about the loss of life. Doing so adds to stigma we want less of," the DOH added.
The health department calls for "considerate and wholesome fun" this April Fool's Day.
April Fool's Day, as defined by the fact-checked online Encyclopedia Britannica, is a social custom celebrated by people playing "practical jokes" to others.
After pulling jokes and tricks, a greeting "Happy April Fool's Day!" follows.
