Liga Ng Mga Barangay sa Pilipinas reminded barangay officials of the importance of holding a barangay assembly twice a year as mandated by the Local Government Code of the Philippines.
In an interview during DILG sa DZRH Breaktime on Wednesday, March 20, Liga Ng Mga Barangay sa Pilipinas national president Jessica Dy stressed that barangay assembly provides an opportunity for local officials to inform their constituents on the status of their village.
Dy, the barangay chairperson of Brgy. San Fabian, Echague, Isabela, said that barangay officials can reveal their accomplishments, and plans during the assembly.
The barangay assembly provides a platform for residents to give feedback on the projects of their officials, and bring up the problems that they noticed in the village.
"Bihira lang ito na magsama-sama lahat ng mga magka-barangay, kasama ang lahat ng mga opisyal," Dy said.
"Ang mga constituent natin, sila ang ating mga stakeholder. Sila ang mga client natin. Kung tayong mga kapitan, tayo ang ama at ina ng ating barangay, gusto natin ang kapakanan ng ating mga anak," she added.
The Liga Ng Mga Barangay sa Pilipinas national president advised barangay officials to hold the assembly during a weekend to ensure that everyone can attend without the need to take a leave of absence from work or school.
The mayor also reminded her fellow barangay officials that they need to disseminate information regarding the barangay assembly, particularly the date, at least a week before holding the activity.
"Napakarami ng ways para ma-disseminate natin ang invitation na iyan. Nandiyan ang social media, ang Facebook. Lahat na yata ng tao ay may Facebook na, we can use that," Dy said.
Presidential Proclamation No. 599 series of 2018, sets every Saturday and Sunday of March and October as Barangay Assembly Days.
