Zaldy Co’s lawyer denies alleged ‘feelers’ to government
by Mary Antalan23 January 2026

The lawyer of resigned Congressman Zaldy Co has denied claims that his client sent “feelers” to the government through several priests.

Co's lawyer Atty. Ruy Rondain told DZRH News that he did not make any such move nor authorize any form of communication on Co's behalf.

Rondain stressed that unless the priests directly spoke with Co himself, any alleged attempt to reach out to the government should be considered “unauthorized feelers.”

“As far as I know, I am the only person authorized to speak for Rep. Co. I made no such overture. So, unless they spoke with him directly, I must say that those were unauthorized feelers,” Rondain said.

He emphasized that, to his knowledge, he is the only authorized spokesperson for the former Ako Bicol party-list representative.

Earlier, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla claimed that Co had allegedly sent feelers to the Office of the Ombudsman in an attempt to open a dialogue. However, Remulla said the information has yet to be verified.

According to the DILG chief, Co is currently in Lisbon, Portugal.

The former lawmaker is facing malversation and graft charges in connection with the alleged ₱289-million anomalous flood control project in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, aside from another plunder complaint filed by the National Bureau of Investigation before the Department of Justice.

Meanwhile, Malacañang said it is open to talks with Co but is leaving any action to the Office of the Ombudsman.
