Filipino World Champion Gymnast Carlos Yulo has earned a spot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) confirmed on Sunday, October 1, that Yulo booked a ticket to the Paris Games after finishing third place at the floor exercise event of the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium.
Yulo placed third in the event with a score of 14.600 points.
Artme Dolgopyat of Israel ruled the event with a score of 15.100 points and Frederick Rickhard of the United States placed second with a scored of 14.600 points.
While Olympic qualification rules state that the winner of the event will get the spot in the Paris Games, both Dolgopyat and Rickhard have already qualified for the quadrennial event, which opened the doors for Yulo to get the slot.
"He proudly joins the elite ranks of Filipino athletes securing a Paris bert alongside the number 2 pole vaulter in the world, EJ Obiena," POC said in a Facebook page.
