The youth group Kabataan Partylist challenged the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to conduct a live stream of Noche Buena preparation using the P500 budget insisted by the department as 'sufficient' amidst inflation.
"To settle this once and for all, we challenge the DTI to host a live stream of them demonstrating how to prepare their ₱500 Noche Buena package, from grocery shopping to cooking preparations, to see if it can actually decently serve a family of five or if they are only duping consumers," said the party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel on Saturday.
He also mentioned that the Noche Buena budget would not be under debate if the government provided support and action for people's demand for a wage increase, economic aid, and price control.
Meanwhile, Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan (SPARK) national coordinator John Lazaro challenged DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo to personally prepare Noche Buena for her family using the budget or admit that the department lacks awareness and sympathy towards public concerns.
To recall, DTI asserted that the P500 budget is enough for a traditional Filipino Noche Buena of four to five family members, encouraging people to tighten their belts amidst the economic crisis.
