As the 2024 Paralympics kicks off in Paris, France, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. showed support for the six athletes who will carry the Philippine flag in the quadrennial sports event.
The Philippine delegation includes swimmers Ernie Gawilan, Angel Otom, wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan, javelin thrower, archer Agustina Bantiloc, and taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin.
President Marcos assured that the whole Philippines already feels proud of their accomplishments, and supports their campaign in Paris.
"As you represent the Philippines in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, know that you are all already champions in our eyes," the Chief Executive said on Thursday, August 29, in a statement posted in his social media accounts.
"No accolade, praise, or reward can truly return the pride you bring to our country. As you take on the world stage at Paralympics, remember that the whole nation is with you, supporting you every step of the way," he added.
President Marcos told the 'Sensational Six' to compete with the heart of Filipino warriors, and show the world the strength of the Filipino people.
"Your commitment to your training as elite athletes, despite challenges you face, exemplifies the spirit of the Filipino people," the Chief Executive stressed.
The Philippine Sports Commission also showed support for the six Paralympians.
"The fight you will be rendering is not just for the sake of garnering medals, but to prove that persons with disabilities make a significant limelight to the victory of our sporting community," PSC chairperson Richard Bachmann said in a statement.
"The whole country anticipates your respective fight. Their amount of support is significant for the dedication and determination you will play in every battle. It’s now your turn to continue the success we are currently in," Bachmann added.
The Paris Paralympics officially opened on Wednesday, August 28, and will run until September 8.
