Actress Xyriel Manabat recently spoke up about the impact of lewd comments on her mental health, revealing that she had to seek therapy to deal with the negative effects.
During Star Magic’s Hot Summer LaHot Sexy video, which was uploaded on YouTube, the 19-year-old actress addressed inappropriate comments about her body on social media.
One comment, in particular, that caught her attention was, “Ang laki naman ng boobs mo! Pabawasan mo ‘yan, baka bastusin ka!” Xyriel shared how these kinds of comments can be difficult to deal with, and not everyone has the same inner strength as she does to handle them.
She urged people to refrain from commenting, victim-blaming, or justifying sexual harassment, stressing that it is never okay.
Xyriel further emphasized that people’s body type should not be used as an excuse for inappropriate behavior, and instead, it is the responsibility of people's minds to adjust accordingly.
Huwag niyo pong i-wish na bastusin, tingnan dahil sa body type,” she said.
“Hindi kasi dun nababase kung babastusin or what.
In the video, Xyriel also shared how she was affected by a photo of herself that was maliciously edited, and how netizens in the comments section justified the "inappropriate" post.
While the entertainment industry may appear to be unbothered by negative comments, Xyriel noted that they can still take a significant toll on her mental health.
She recounted how she started receiving lewd comments when she was only 16 years old and had to resort to wearing additional clothing to avoid any potential objectification.
Xyriel stressed that sexual harassment and objectification of women are never acceptable, and people should instead focus on correcting and educating others.
She urged people to love their bodies for what they are, rather than seeking validation from others, emphasizing that flaws should be embraced, not rejected.
“When you say love your body, love your body wholly. I-embrace natin kasi hindi ‘yun flaws," Xyriel said.
