X, formerly known as Twitter, will soon be removing the block button feature.

This comes after Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk pronounced that an X user may not be able to use the ability to block other accounts.

“Block is going to be deleted as a “feature”, except for DMs [direct messages],” he said in a response to a Tesla Owners Club which asked, “Is there ever a reason to block vs mute, someone?”.

“It makes no sense,” Musk added.

According to X’s glossary, the block feature helps users to prevent other accounts from following them or adding them to Twitter lists.

Users who make use of the block option can also avoid receiving notifications when they are mentioned in a post.

However, many users were not pleased by Musk’s pronouncement.

In a post, a user pointed out that removing the feature on a social media platform like Twitter would compromise the safety of many people, particularly those who are victims of abuse and stalking.

Another user also said that if this policy will be implemented, X will violate the policies set byy the App Store and the Google Play Store.

“Potentially, this could lead to X being removed from these platforms. There are no such policies for the web app, however,” he added.

Last month, X first introduced controversial changes in the platform such as temporary limits on the number of tweets that a user will be able to read per day.

The social media platform also limited the use of TweetDeck to verified users only.
