Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos, commander of Western Command (WesDom), led an airborne assessment of the Malampaya Natural Gas Platform, known as the country's "energy crown jewel," over the weekend.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, the WesCom said that the examination is part of its commitment to "ensure steady power supply during Holy Week and throughout the summer months when demand is expected to peak."

Carlos landed on the Matinloc platform, 42 kilometers off the coast of El Nido, Palawan, to speak with the seven-man team stationed there and examine the station's power and water supplies.

He also met with Joint Task Force Malampaya's commanding officers and will investigate issues concerning the protection of energy projects in the "western frontier"," led by Navy Capt. Brendo Casaclang.

Carlos made the most of his holiday in Malampaya by visiting the Philippine Navy's unmanned aerial system (UAS) flying unit stationed in El Nido.

The UAS flight unit reports to the Naval Air Wing and is currently connected and operationally controlled by Wescom to give JTF Malampaya a continuous maritime domain awareness picture.
