Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin has denied the reported China involvement in cyber security attacks, saying they do not support such acts.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post on Thursday, February 8, Wenbin said his country has also been victimized by cyberattack.

"China is a major victim of cyberattack. We keep a firm stance against all forms of cyberattacks and resort to lawful methods in tackling them. China does not encourage, support[,] or condone attacks launched by hackers," he said.

The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said in a separate X post that "false accusations and bloc confrontation" about cyber security attacks "only jeopardize" the collective response of countries against threats.

According to international news agency, Reuters' article published February 7, Netherlands intelligence agencies reported that Chinese spies allegedly hacked the Dutch Ministry of Defence's internal computer network in 2023.

Netherlands intelligence agencies reportedly said that Chinese spies used "sophisticated malicious software, or malware" to spy on the said ministry's internal computer network.

Last February 3, the Department of Information and Communications Technology Usec. Jeff Ian Dy declared that they successfully thwarted the attempted hacking on the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration's official website.

The attackers, according to Dy, were allegedly traced at a "command and control center" operating in China Unicom.
