The official trailer of the highly-anticipated historical movie "GOMBURZA", an official entry to the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival, was unveiled on Friday, Dec. 15.

The 2-minute and 7-second trailer opens with a Spanish official giving advice to Filipino priest José Burgos played by Cedrick Juan.

“Dapat alam n’yo saan lugar. Itigil ang pagpapakalat ng radikal na ideyal,” the Spanish official said.

“Mga ideya na liberal,” Burgos corrected.

The scenes then transition to Spaniards opposing the idea of educating and training “Indios” or Filipinos, and Filipinos expressing their outrage against friars’s cruelties and abuse of powers.

“Mga prayle na kung makaasta ay akala mo’y sila ang nagmamay-ari ng Islas at tayo’y mga alipin lamang nila,” someone laments.

The trailer also shows the arrest of Burgos along with other Filipino secular priests Mariano Gomez, characterized by Dante Rivero, and Jacinto Zamora, played by Enchong Dee, after being accused as the brains in the Cavite uprising.

“Nawa’y maging mitsa ang ating pagkamatay,” Gomez remarks.

“Para sa liwanag,” Burgos adds.

Directed by Jose Lorenzo 'Pepe' Diokno, "GomBurZa" will premiere in cinemas this December 25.

Other cast of the historical film are Elijah Canlas as Paciano Rizal, Ketchup Eusebio as Francisco Zaldua, and Khalil Ramos as Jose Rizal.
