Universal Pictures dropped the official trailer of the action-packed film “Monkey Man,” directed by Jordan Peele and Dev Patel in his directorial debut.
Inspired by the legend of Hanuman which embodies strength and hope, “Monkey Man” follows a man’s pursuit of vengeance against corrupt officials who killed his mother and remains persistent in its sordid victimization of the poor and powerless.
“Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash,” the film’s synopsis read.
“After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him,” it added.
Joining Patel in the cast are Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobas, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, and Makarand Deshpande.
The film is set to hit theaters on April 5.
