Film company 20th Century Studios released the official trailer of “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” set for release on May 24.
“Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously, and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows,” the logline read.
“As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike,” it added.
The trailer follows the reign of apes on Earth following the Simian Flu virus outbreak faced by human society led to a global collapse. An ape civilization emerged with a similar social class as humans after they became the dominant species on the planet.
The “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is the fourth installment in the 20th Century Studios franchise following the release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017).
