Film production company NEON on Wednesday, Oct. 18, dropped the official trailer of “EILEEN” starring Academy-Award winner Anne Hathaway and Jojo Rabbit’s Thomasin Mackenzie.

“Set during a bitter 1964 Massachusetts winter, young secretary Eileen becomes enchanted by the glamorous new counselor at the prison where she works. Their budding friendship takes a twisted turn when Rebecca reveals a dark secret — throwing Eileen onto a sinister path,” the film’s official synopsis read.

The trailer shows Machenzi, playing the titular character Eileen, who works as a prison employee and forms a burgeoning relationship with the psychologist Rebecca. It takes a sinister path as Eileen enters a new world filled with mystery and deceit.

The film was based on a 2015 award-winning novel by Ottessa Moschfegh and directed by Lady Macbeth director William Oldroyd.

According to an Entertainment Weekly report, EILEEN will be shown in theaters on December 8. The film earlier premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival in January.
