Several local government units (LGU) and schools have announced suspension of classes on Monday, October 16, due to the transport strike to be carried out by jeepey drivers and operators.
Below are the list of suspended classes today, October 16:
BULACAN
• Calumpit, Bulacan
RIZAL
• Binangonan
• Angono
• Taytay
LAGUNA
• Biñan
• Sta. Rosa
• San Pedro
• Calamba
• Cabuyao
• Los Baños
• San Pablo
CAVITE
• General Mariano Alvarez
METRO MANILA
• Parañaque City
• Las Piñas City
• Marikina City
• Pasay City
• Malabon City
• Caloocan City
PAMPANGA
• Pampanga (October 16-17, 2023)
• Angeles City (October 16-17, 2023)
PANGASINAN
• Lingayen, Pangasinan
No face-to-face classes in the following universities:
• De La Salle University - Manila
• University of Santo Tomas
• University of the East - Manila and Caloocan
• National University
• San Beda University - Manila and Rizal
• Lyceum of the Philippines University
• Adamson University
• Our Lady of Fatima University (Pampanga at Laguna)
• Polytechnic University of the Philippines (all branches and campuses)
• STI College (Sta. Mesa)
Meanwhile several areas in the country said it will still hold its classes. Theses areas are:
• Pasig City
• Makati City
• City of Manila
• Pateros
• Muntinlupa City
• Taguig
• Quezon City
• Dagupan City, Pangasinan (except public schools in elementary to high school)
Transport Group Manibela earlier said that it will push through with its work stoppage to protest the Dec. 31 deadline for the mandatory jeepney franchise consolidation, a component of the government's public utility vehicle modernization program.
On the otherhand, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos assured the public that no transportation paralysis would occur, adding that 95% of transport groups will not participate in the strike.
