President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. brushed off calls from his critics to resign from his post.
In a briefing with the Philippine media delegation on Tuesday, Marcos was asked about his response to critics urging him to step down after he requested the courtesy resignation of government officials.
"I will resign? Bakit ko gagawin 'yun? At wala sa ugali ko ang tinatakbuhan ang problema," Marcos said.
"So, what good will that do?" he added.
It can be recalled that last week, the President asked all his Cabinet members to submit their courtesy resignations, saying it was time to "realign the government."
After evaluating the resignations submitted by government officials, Marcos retained Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and five other Cabinet members.
These officials are:
- Ma. Cristina Aldeguer-Roque – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
Ralph Recto – Department of Finance (DOF) - Arsenio Balisacan – Department of Economic Planning and Development (DEPDev)
- Amenah Pangandaman – Department of Budget and Management (DBM)
- Frederick Go – Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs
Malacañang previously stated that Cabinet secretaries who tendered their courtesy resignations must prove they deserve to remain in the Marcos administration.
