Vice President Sara Duterte visited the four slain soldiers' wake held in Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte on Monday, March 18.

In a Facebook post, the Philippine Army's 6th Infantry 'Kampilan' Division said Duterte was welcomed by Lt. Gen. William Gonzales, the commander of Western Mindanao Command, and Major General Alex S Rillera, the commander of 6th Infantry Division /Joint Task Force Central.

"Nakiramay ang Bise Presidente at isa-isang kinausap ang mga kapamilya ng mga nasawing sundalo. Nag-alay din ng panalangin si VP Sara sa burol ng apat na mga sundalo at nagbigay din ng cash assistance sa mga kamag-anak," it said.

Duterte also paid a visit to the injured soldiers admitted to Camp Siongco Station Hospital.

Armed men, believed to be members of Dawla Islamiyah - Hassan Group, attacked the four soldiers namely Pvt Marvin Dumaguing, Pvt Jessie James Corpuz, PFC Carl Araña, and Cpl Creszaldy Espartero in Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao del Sur on Sunday afternoon, March 17.

The four reportedly went out to buy Iftar for residents of Sitio Bagurot, Tuayan Mother, Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao del Sur.

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. as well as the Philippine Army and the Armed Forces of the Philippines condemned the deadly ambush.
