The recent impeachment effort in the House of Representatives has not deterred Vice President Sara Duterte from "seriously considering" a presidential run in 2028.
During a press briefing on Friday, Duterte emphasized that she has repeatedly considered running for president, but pointed out that making a decision is challenging without survey figures.
"Nasabi ko naman na, paulit-ulit kong [sinasabi na] we are seriously considering that [2028 Presidential bid] but it’s difficult to decide without numbers," said Duterte.
"So, kailangan malaman ‘yung surveys and numbers. Sa next year pa ‘yon," she added.
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives approved the impeachment complaints, with 215 lawmakers backing the measure, exceeding the 102 votes needed to send the case to the Senate.
Accusations in the complaint include betrayal of public trust, graft, corruption, and constitutional violations, specifically in relation to the alleged misuse of confidential funds from the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Office of the Vice President (OVP) under her tenure.
The Senate will conduct a trial to determine whether Duterte should be removed from office, but the impeachment trial will not begin until sessions resume in June.
Duterte acknowledged that she understands the consequences of impeachment, including being barred from holding any public office, and emphasized that she has given the matter serious thought.
The Vice President called on her supporters and those praying for her to stay hopeful, stating victory belongs to the people.
