Vice President-elect Sara Duterte and outgoing Education Secretary Leonor Briones held face-to-face transition talks on Saturday, June 25.
In a statement, the Department of Education (DOH) said Duterte visited Briones at the agency's main office in Pasig City, where they had a one-on-one meeting before attending a transition briefing with top DepEd officials.
The closed-door meeting came five days before Duterte assume the position as the new Education chief.
According to DepEd, Briones has agreed to be a consultant for the incoming administration.
Briones also provided an overview of the DepEd’s work under the outgoing administration.
It included a summary of the scope of the department’s responsibility; the contribution of the outgoing administration to basic education reforms; and the identification of matters that require immediate policy attention.
"There was a consensus on policy matters that need immediate attention: the guidelines for the incoming SY 2022-2023 and the budget for 2023. These will be the subject of immediate consultations between the concerned members of both teams," DepEd said.
