Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte is the country's caretaker while President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. is in Thailand to participate in the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting this week.
This was confirmed by Undersecretary Honey Rose Mercado of the Presidential Management Staff on Thursday.
The President together with First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and the Philippine delegation, arrived at the Don Mueang International Airport at around 5 PM (6 p.m. Philippine time) onboard flight PR001.
In the duration of his four-day visit to Thailand, Marcos is expected to have at least six bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, where he said he brings with him the dream of a “peaceful and prosperous” Asia Pacific region.
According to him, he and other world leaders will tackle a wide range of issues, including steps to achieve food and energy security, as well as safe border passage for Filipino seafarers.
The officials will also discuss the economic inclusion of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), women, indigenous people, and other parties "whose potential remains to be unlocked."
Marcos and the First Lady are expected to meet King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana who are set to host APEC leaders and spouses, as per the Office of the Press Secretary.
They will also likely visit and give a speech before the Filipino community in Thailand.
