Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chair George Erwin Garcia confirmed that the 10-day Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) voters’ registration will be held in August.

Registration will take place from August 1 to 10, said Garcia, a decision approved by the COMELEC en banc, while President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is undecided as to whether the BSKE should be postponed to give way to term extensions for incumbent officials.

The bill seeking a 3-year term extension has been approved at its third and final reading in the House of Representatives. The poll body is monitoring to see if the Senate will adopt the bill or propose its own version.

Garcia said that 15 to 17-year-olds in particular must be given the opportunity to register this August, should the December election proceed.
