Filipino actor and singer Jamile Matthew ‘JM’ Canlas has passed away at the age of 17.
JM is the youngest brother of actors Elijah Canlas and Jerom Canlas.
Jerom made the announcement in a post on his Facebook account on Thursday, August 3.
“It is with the heaviest heart and deep sorrow that our family announces the death of our bunso, Jamile Matthew Madiclum Canlas, earlier this morning. He was 17,” he said.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
But Jerom said his brother had been suffering with his mental health in his adolescence.
He then urged those who might be experiencing the same to seek professional help.
“If you are experiencing current distress and are in need of URGENT ATTENTION, please proceed to the emergency room of the hospital nearest you,” JM’s brother said.
Jerom then listed emergency hotlines and links of where to avail free legal or psychological counseling services.
He remarked that his brother will be remembered not only as a talented actor, athlete, musician, singer, debater, and gamer, but also as an incredible young man, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, student, and friend.
“He was always a proud Filipino with a bias and compassion for the poor and oppressed,” Jerom added.
The wake of the 17-year-old actor will be held at St. Peter Chapel in Quezon Avenue from August 4, 8pm to Sunday, August 6.
JM starred in indie films such as “Kiko Boksingero” (2017) and “Ani” (2019).
He was also a cast in a television series called “Unconditional” in 2020.
