Filipinos will continue to enjoy visa-free entry to Taiwan as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) recently announced the extension of this policy.
Starting from August 1, 2023, the extension will be in effect until July 31, 2024.
The decision to prolong the trial visa-free entry measure for another year was made to facilitate bilateral exchanges and tourism in the post-pandemic era.
"After evaluating the effectiveness of the above convenience measures over the past years and considering the need to revive mutual bilateral exchanges and tourism in the post-pandemic era, participating agencies decided to extend the trial visa-free entry measure for one year for nationals of Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines from August 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024," Taiwan's MOFA said in a statement.
The visa exemption program allows Filipinos to stay in Taiwan for up to 14 days, except for those holding diplomatic, official, or service passports.
However, Philippine passport holders must fulfill certain requirements, including providing proof of accommodation, the contact information of their host or sponsor, and sufficient travel funds.
The visa-free entry policy was initially reinstated on September 29, 2022, and has been extended to further promote bilateral exchanges and ensure border and public security.
The MOFA will continue to evaluate and refine visa policies to attract more visitors while maintaining the safety and security of the country.
"MOFA will continue to review and fine-tune visa policies, with a view to strengthen bilateral exchanges and attract more visitors while ensuring border and public security," the statement read.
