MANILA – The resort that went viral online is not an accredited tourism establishment under the Department of Tourism (DOT) accreditation system and has no pending application for the same.
This was confirmed by the DOT through a statement released on Wednesday, after the Captain’s Peak Resort Development in the scenic tourist site of the Chocolate Hills made the rounds on social media after netizens shared content creator Ren The Adventurer’s social media post showing an aerial view video of the property.
Through its Regional Office in Central Visayas, the Department said that it has been in coordination with the Bohol Provincial Government since August 2023 to “express its concerns regarding this matter,” particularly in recognizing the necessity of preserving the integrity of its natural resource.
The DOT likewise commended the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) “for taking swift action in issuing a Temporary Closure Order and ordering for an inspection to ensure the resort’s compliance to the order.”
The Tourism Department also mentioned that it agrees with the Bohol Provincial Government’s position that development with the Chocolate Hills area are not consistent with its long-term sustainability and should be disallowed.
In the same statement, the DOT reiterates its support for the preservation and protection of Bohol’s Chocolate Hills, which is located within a declared UNESCO Global Geopark and a source of national pride for the Philippines.
