A barangay chairman reelectionist in Taal, Batangas, was gunned down by an unknown suspect on Tuesday morning, September 5.

The Batangas Police Provincial Office identified the victim as Erasmo Divino Hernandez, the barangay captain of Poblacion, Zone 10.

Based on the police report, a riding tandem arrived and shot Hernandez, who was only sitting at the rest area in front of the barangay hall.

The randem reportedly used a caliber 45 pistol, and quickly fled towards Sta. Teresita in the said province.

Hernandez was rushed to Lemery Doctors Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival due to the fatal shooting.

Batangas PPO director Col. Samson Belmonte immediately created a task force team to fasten the investigation and swift arrest of the assailants as well as the person responsible for killing the village leader.
