Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto assured Pasigueños that the new Pasig City Hall Campus will be done "properly, transparently, and efficiently."
"The real work is up ahead. We will make sure that we are on time, that we are able do this properly, transparently, and efficiently," Sotto said during Pasig City’s Flag Ceremony on Monday, July 3, a day after he announced the creation of the new Pasig City Hall Campus.
He stated that after they are approved by the Pasig Public-Private Partnership Selection Committee (P4SC), the budget or money allotted for the planned campus will be disclosed to the general public.
The said P4SC was established to facilitate the negotiations for the proposed campus, particularly to ensure that all aspects of the joint venture agreement for the city hall campus are thoroughly reviewed, especially the engineering layout and architectural design of all the structures within the campus.
The P4SC includes City Administrator Atty. Geronimo Manzanero, who sits as the committee chairperson; Vice Mayor Robert "Dodot" Jaworski Jr., along with representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs), namely the United Architects of the Philippines-Pasig, along with the participation of the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and business sectors.
"We are not just constructing a building. We will spur local economic growth and development. Bubuhayin natin ang poblacion ng Pasig City (We will resurrect the center of Pasig City)," he highlighted.
This follows after Architects and engineers from an independent consultancy found Pasig City Hall's 62 columns and 451 beams are "structurally inadequate," which needs to be rebuilt, according to the Mayor.
He said that the project will take up to 10 years to fully complete. However, the priority is to build the actual city hall building in two years.
Sotto said the local government offices would be temporarily relocated to suitable sites to ensure continued service and the safety of employees and the public.
He also encouraged everyone to pray that an untoward incident, such as an earthquake, will not happen anytime soon while the negotiation for the redevelopment project is ongoing.
"This may be the biggest project in the history of Pasig City. So, I need your help and support," said the Mayor.
