Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto revealed on Saturday evening that he tested positive for COVID-19.
"Hi everyone, bad news, I've tested positive for covid-19. I have a sore throat, fever, and body aches, but please don't worry!" he said on Facebook.
"I'll continue to work remotely while in isolation for the next 7 days," he added.
According to Sotto, the new strain was unlike the Delta variant, where he had several close calls but did not contract it.
"Matindi talaga ang pagkalat ng Omicron - sabi nga ng ibang eksperto, LAHAT TAYO ay mae-expose sa variant na ito," he said.
(The Omicron is intense – as experts said, everyone can get exposed to this variant.)
He then reminded the public to remain careful, strengthen their resistance and be responsible.
"Kung may sintomas wag na munang lumabas," he said.

The country on Saturday logged a new record high in fresh cases, recording 39,004 new infections.
