The camp of television host Ferdinand 'Vhong' Navarro welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court that dismissed the rape and acts of lasciviousness charges filed against the celebrity.
"Very, very happy siya about this," Atty. Alma Malonga, the legal counsel of Navarro, said on Tuesday, March 14, during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.
"Ang tagal din pinagdasal. Ang dami namin pinagdaanan lalong-lalo na si Vhong but nandito tayo ngayon,Yes, it is a good day, it is a good morning for us," she added.
Malonga said that the ruling proved that the Court of Appeals made a mistake in reversing the decision issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The DOJ dismissed the cases filed by model Deniece Cornejo due to lack of probable cause.
"Ang lagi namin sinasabi ay hintayin natin ang Supreme Court. Hindi ang Court of Appeals ang magsasabi ng final kung ano, kung sino ang tama sa Court of Appeals at saka Department of Justice," Malonga stressed.
"Ngayon nga ay malinaw na sinasabi ng Supreme Court na that the Court of Appeals gravely erred," she said.
In the 43-page decision made public on Monday, March 13, the high tribunal said that the DOJ 'committed no grave abuse of discretion in affirming the finding of lack of probable cause against Navarro'.
The Supreme Court added that CA 'simply had no basis to reverse the prosecutor's finding of lack of probable cause'.
