The Japanese government and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Philippines handed over 50 tablets loaded with science and math digital stories and apps to the city of Valenzuela on Friday.

In collaboration with the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Mathematics Education and Research (FPSMER), the assistance aims to make science and math subjects more accessible to young school students by utilizing early-grade digital learning resources developed.

Present during the turnover ceremony was Valenzuela City Councilor Nia Shiela Lopez together with representatives from UNICEF Philippines, the Department of Education (DepEd), the University of the Philippines National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development, and FPSMER.

The project is part of Japan's USD2.5 million contribution to UNICEF's cross-sectoral coronavirus disease 2019 response to protect the Philippines' most vulnerable children from a child-rights crisis caused by the pandemic.
