The University of Santo Tomas (UST) has branched out to General Santos in Mindanao, celebrating the new campus with blessing and inauguration ceremonies.
According to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), the General Santos campus “represents the Catholic university’s bid to make General Santos City an educational center in the region.”
UST Manila journalism program head Felipe Salvosa II said the campus’ main building has been modeled based on the almost century-old UST Main Building in the Manila campus.
It houses 24 classrooms, 23 laboratories, a chapel, library, clinic, auditorium, cafeteria, organization rooms, and function halls that can accommodate 5,000 students.
The GenSan campus is set to open for students in Academic Year 2024-2025, “with a projected initial enrollment of 500 students in the health sciences, business and accountancy, and engineering and information technology.”
It is the biggest UST campus to date.
