The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Monday reminded government officials and employees that the use of government-owned vehicles on weekends and holidays is prohibited.
The agency bars the use of government-owned vehicles on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, with the exception of use for the performance of official functions, in line with the DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2026-011, effective February 6. Personal use and private errands are not allowed.
The DILG clarified that this directive applies to all elected and appointed local officials, DILG Central, Regional, and Field personnel, and personnel from attached DILG agencies.
Violations may lead to administrative and/or criminal charges.
“Unauthorized or non-official use of government vehicles during these periods results in unnecessary expenditure of public funds and undermines public trust in government institutions,” the DILG reasoned in its memorandum.
