The United States of America will give an additional $5 million approximately Php 286 million to accelerate the country’s COVID-19 vaccination programs, US Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff announced Monday, Nov. 21.

He announced this development in his speech during the safe school reopening round table discussion held at Gregoria de Jesus Elementary School in Caloocan City — part of his and Vice President Kamala Harris’ three-day itinerary in the country.

“This assistance funded through the American Rescue Plan will support vaccine distribution to children and adults in line with the Philippine government's COVID-19 vaccination efforts to intensify and strengthen this country’s wall of immunity,” Emhoff said.

Apart from this, Emhoff announced that the US government will also donate hygiene kits and other COVID-19 supplies to further boost the country's efforts against COVID-19.

“Our joint work on this front is among the important highlights of our long-standing and vibrant collaboration. I'm looking forward to continuing the partnership between our countries in this fight against COVID-19 and tuberculosis and working together to keep our communities safe and healthy and our schools open,” he said.

To date, the US has provided $51 million to the country since the outbreak began.
