A US and Turkish national was intercepted at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
BI's investigation revealed that the American national identified as Michael David Steinborn, 57, was discovered to be a registered sex offender (RSO) and was convicted in Kissimmee, Florida, in 1994 for indecent exposure, considered a Tier 1 offender.
Meanwhile, the Turkish national was identified as Amol Awasthi, 48, who was later revealed to be the subject of an Interpol blue notice issued last year in connection with a criminal investigation against him for alleged involvement in transactions that defrauded the Indian government.
According to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, the two were barred on separate occasions upon their arrival at NAIA Terminal 3.
Steinborn was denied entry on Nov. 26 upon arriving aboard a United Airlines flight from San Francisco, while Awasthi was intercepted the next day after he arrived via an Emirates flight from the United Arab Emirates.
"Both Steinborn and Awasthi were booked and boarded on the next available flight to their port of origin following their exclusion," the BI said.
