The Philippine and American warships conducted a ‘bilateral sail’ in the sea of Palawan on Monday, September 4, to enhance interoperability between the two countries.

According to Armed Forces of the Philippines Public Affairs Office Chief Lt. Col Enrico Gil Ileto, the ‘robust maritime cooperation’ of the two countries is a feature in the bilateral maritime activity of the United States and the Philippines.

The bilateral agreements are part of the Mutual Defense Board-Security Engagement Board framework that aims to promote the operational interoperability of the two countries.

With such activity, the Philippines sent the guided-missile frigate BRP Jose Rizal, while the US Navy sent its Arleigh Burke-Class guided-missile destroyer, USS Ralph Johnson.

The AFP Western Command Naval Task Force and the US 7th Fleet also exhibited ‘division tactics’ in such joint exercises in Palawan.
